The Story Behind No Shades Campaign
No Shade Co. Campaign was born from pain, humiliation, and the
decision to turn that pain into purpose. The idea was created after Shem’Kara came to work wearing glasses to cover her eyes because her allergies had flared up. Throughout the day, she was mocked and teased, with people making hurtful jokes and assumptions that she had been beaten.
While many laughed or made comments, only one person stopped to ask, “Are you truly okay? Is everything okay at home?”
That single moment stayed with her. It made her realize how often women are forced to hide behind sunglasses, makeup, or silence to cover bruises, pain, and abuse—and how often people choose to joke
instead of care.
From that experience, the No Shade Campaign was created. The
mission behind “No Shade” is simple but powerful: women should never have to hide behind shades because of abuse, and abuse should never be happening in the first place. The campaign stands to raise awareness, encourage compassion, and provide support for survivors of domestic violence and sexual abuse.
What started as one painful day became the foundation for something bigger—a movement dedicated to advocacy, healing, and helping women step out of the shadows and into safety, confidence, and freedom.
